After another day of research and running around trying to purchase things to make Scooter's environment a better place, we were able to bring in some live vegetation for her to eat which included Anacheris, Amazon Swords, and Duckweed. We also built Scooter a cave and basking shelf out of a clean milk crate and some plastic coated bathroom shelves. In addition to these items we added some soft coated drift wood, smooth river rock, and a bubble wand to give her something to climb on and circulate the water. Additionally a basking heat lamp and an old UV light we had from another smaller tank was placed above.

Scooter was a very calm and friendly turtle. She was eating and basking. Scooter seemed to be generally healthy and satisfied. Her plastron still looked disturbing but everyone seemed to think she was fine. I did not realize at that time that I need to worry more about her. The vet said she was fine, she was acting fine, and turtle lovers online complimented how well she looked (granted the pictures never showed her injuries very well).

We continued to watch and enjoy Scooter a great deal while awaiting our online orders from BigAlsOnline.com to arrive. Due to price and availability issues locally we had ordered the filtration system and heater from BigAls.

While waiting for our orders and enjoying Scooter, we continued to shop around at petshops for various items that may improve her environment. This is when we found three more turtles that would be joining our family. Since this is Scooter's story we will not go into the three other turtles here but if you would like to read about three Red Eared Slider hatchlings you may do so by clicking their link in the navigation bar below.
