It's been just about two weeks since the last update to Scooter's Story. It's like an emotional and physical roller coaster ride with her. One day it looks like she is healing quickly and doing GREAT! The next day everything seems to peel off again and it's as if we're back at square one. Thankfully each time it does come off, it doesn't seem as deep as the time before. She is healing, but the process is a long slow ordeal with plenty of good and bad days alike.

The following are close-ups of the center of Scooter's plastron (the most affected area).

Jan 25th 2003

This photo shows how the shell is beginning to grow back in.
To the touch it is harder than flesh but a bit softer than a healthy shell.

Feb 1st 2003

One week later pieces of the new growth begin to peel off.

Feb 3rd 2003

Finally the outer layer of her new growth comes completely off after a gentle cleaning of her plastron.
On a good note it's not as deep of an injury and the bloody flesh appears healthy.

Feb 4th 2003

Just 12 hours after the photo above this one was taken, we see new growth again. What a roller coaster!

Scooter's last vet visit was on Jan 29th 2003. He felt she was healing wonderfully and no follow-up appointments were made. As long as she continues to heal there is nothing more he can do for her. Our goal is to keep her clean and warm and continuing one treatment a day with the betadine and silvadone cleanings.
