To determine the sex of sexually MATURE Jacks...look at their gills. The colouring on a male's gills will stop half-way down, however the female's will go to the bottom of the gill. This is a GENERAL way of identifying. It's not always accurate. However, with most of the breeding pairs of Jacks I've seen...it was accurate!
